Restoring Art Deco influences in West Ealing

West Ealing, London

Overview

This scheme transforms a former derelict Woolworths into a vibrant Art Deco-inspired aparthotel, revitalising West Ealing’s streetscape with modern, flexible accommodation and co-working spaces for leisure and business travellers.

It includes a public café, courtyard garden, and rooftop terraces for guests. Located on Broadway, it’s within five minutes’ walk of shops, restaurants, and a gym. Landscaped areas, including biodiverse roofs, raised planters, and a sunken garden, enhance on-site biodiversity.

To create a welcoming public realm, the ground and first floors will be activated with 1,100 sq m of leisure use for the public domain, encouraging active street frontage embedded with a fully accessible plaza.

Architecturally, the scheme draws inspiration from the former Woolworths building, referencing its original Art Deco façade through the use of decorative cladding panels, a vertical rhythm and a clear hierarchy.
