Sitting upon a plinth of light space, activating a scenic gateway
Overview
This scheme redevelops the first part of a Locally Significant Industrial Site (LSIS) in Willesden into a development that co-locates 301 new homes with light industrial and commercial uses.
The new homes are distributed across six buildings and sit above a plinth of light industrial space, flexible makerspaces, a café, gym and supermarket.
These active frontages line a new pedestrian route that accommodates the intersections of the different uses and improves the site’s permeability by connecting the High Road to Dudden Hill Lane and Dollis Hill underground station.
The architectural language has been informed by the site’s industrial heritage with delicate and functional detailing, including gateways at the three entry points, each designed to reflect their specific relationship to the public realm, the use beyond, and the existing surrounding context.
