Delivering compliant projects through Gateway 2

Assael Architecture has secured five Building Safety Regulator (BSR) Gateway 2 approvals in the past three months, bringing the practice’s total to six approvals since the new regime came into force. The approvals reflect the practice’s established approach to embedding compliance, coordination and buildability throughout project delivery.

The latest approvals build on the practice’s first successful Gateway 2 application for the Boddingtons Brewery redevelopment in Manchester, approved last summer and now under construction.

As the industry continues to adapt to the Building Safety Act, Gateway 2 has become a critical milestone in the delivery of higher-risk residential buildings. Securing approval requires more than a compliant submission at the point of application; it depends on a robust design process, coordinated information and clear evidence of compliance throughout project development.

Assael’s approach is to embed Gateway 2 requirements from the earliest design stages, integrating regulatory compliance into project delivery rather than treating it as a standalone exercise. This enables design teams to develop coordinated, buildable solutions while supporting a smoother approval process.
